For those of you you haven’t heard, Boxee will be leaving Alpha status and entering into Beta on December 7 at 7pm EST.

Boxee is a cross-platform freeware media center software with a 10-foot user interface and social networking features designed for the living-room TV.  It’s a cross between Facebook and the Apple TV.  Better yet, Boxee can be easily installed onto your Apple TV by creating a USB patchstick and booting from it while still retaining all the original Apple TV functionality like rentals or purchases from iTunes.

Apparently the 3.0 update to the Apple TV bought a syncing problem with it, which Apple issued the 3.0.1 update for today. I was not aware of a syncing issue before receiving an email from Apple asking me to update my Apple TV software.

“If you’ve installed the Apple TV 3.0 software update, you should immediately update to version 3.0.1. This prevents content from temporarily disappearing until it is resynced.”

So you might want to fire up your Apple TV and get the software updated before your content goes missing.

Update – As heard on every other Apple enthusiast and Gadget website, the 3.0 update is now official. You can read all about it from Apple’s official Press Release. For those of you stuck far from your Apple TV you can check out some screen shots over at the official Apple TV web page. ATVJ will have a full review coming.

We can confirm what MacRumors is reporting, that an Apple TV 3.0 software update is coming soon. Apparently anyone making a purchase today is being presented with an update to the Terms and Conditions which lists the 3.0 software update. This 3.0 update looks to be bringing iTunes LP and iTunes Extra functionality to the Apple TV.

Time to fire up those Apple TV’s and repeatedly hit that Software Update!

While it seemed as though most of the Apple TV noise yesterday was surrounding some ridiculous touch screen remote, Apple snuck in a minor update to the All HD menu of the Apple TV.

Now before you run over to your Apple TV and click on Update Software, this update didn’t come as a normal software update. Just as Apple has the ability to remotely control the content which is displayed on the Apple TV without a software update, it appears that they can also control the menu structure of how movies are displayed in the same way.

It’s been a week now that I’ve been tracking the fact that the Apple TV is not displaying the entire list of HD rentals through its interface. As a matter of fact I’m beginning to think it’s just my Apple TV which is displaying this problem, all though I’ve gotten confirmation from at least one other person that has the same problem. The big question of the day is, without this list, how are you all finding HD rentals on the Apple TV? Is it just through a pure search? Are you using the Genre lists? Do you have any suggestions for a better search? We want to know!
