Did you know that Apple has begun to offer theatrical release titles, or in some cases pre-theatrical release titles, in the iTunes Movie Store.
The Joaquin Phoenix documentary I’m Still Here is now available to rent, and in HD, through iTunes. This movie was just released on the 10th, and has yet to achieve wide theatrical release. Two other titles not even available in theaters yet are available for rent. Monsters, the sci-fi thriller, and the documentary Freakanomics. Both of these titles won’t be available in theaters until next month.
Granted these aren’t exactly Tron 2 or Wall Street 2 caliber theatrical releases. But, if Apple is looking for a way to distinguish its second generation streaming only Apple TV from the rest of the competition, then it might be wise to continue to offer theatrical or pre-theatrical release titles when they can.
