I think I created this post more for my piece of mind and clarification, but why not share it with the world. So what are the G1 Apple TV users looking at regarding the new rentals and streaming. Read on to find out what I’ve discovered so far.

TV Rentals Do Not Sync or Stream
All new rentals wether they are TV Shows or Movies now download to the new rentals area of iTunes. As Apple TV users we know that in the past once a rental was downloaded we could click over to the Apple TV area in iTunes and transfer the rental. For TV Shows this is no longer possible with the G1 Apple TV. There is no way to transfer a TV Show rental. I was hoping that with AirPlay I might be able to stream it, but that was a no go, at least for now. In theory with the new G2 Apple TV you should be able to stream a TV Show rental or purchase from iTunes.

Movies Still Transfer
With movies, all though you can’t sync or stream rentals, you can still transfer the movie rental to your G1 Apple TV. Again in theory with the new G2 Apple TV you should be able to stream a movie rental or purchase from iTunes.
I hope this clears up some of the syncing and streaming question everyone has. I’m sure as the G2 Apple TV is released along with AirPlay for the iDevices the situation will hopefully become a little more clear.
