For the past 2 plus years, first Apple TV Junkie now Apple Movie Junkie, has been the destination for Apple TV and iTunes movie fans to find out the latest and greets additions on a daily basis. With Cinemira now open to all, and with many of its services automating what we do here manually, we don’t see the need to continue the daily updates. We will continue to post our New Movie Tuesday posts, keep up to date on the $.99 rentals, and keep track of the top 5 rentals and purchase titles. Its a new day for Apple Movie Junkie with the release of Cinemira, we thank all of our visitors over the years for your support, and we hope to continue to provide you with the helpful information you’ve come to expect from Apple Movie Junkie.

As of this morning the Cinemira beta is official open for business to all. While Cinemira is still in beta you can expect to see a few rough edges, some wet paint, and even a few cracks we need to repair after the earthquake the other day, but we think that Cinemira’s core functionality is in place and ready to go. We also still expect any Cinemira user to voice their opinion about wanted features or bugs with feedback.
What can you all expect from the open Cinemira beat? Below is a list of Cinemira’s features and functions.
• The ability to search the entire iTunes Movie database from your favorite modern* web browser without having to launch iTunes. Cinemira’s database is updated at least once a day.
• A daily list of the new movies, either rentals, purchase, or pre-order titles, added to the iTunes Movie database.
• Each movie is marked as either rental, purchase, or both with links leading you to iTunes should you want to make a transaction.
• Poster art, title, summary, actors and director information is available for each movie along with pricing.
• Movies available in Apple TV HD or iTunes HD are marked accordingly.
• Add movies to your Will Call Stack so that you can receive notification when a particular movie becomes available to rent. Notifications come through email or Twitter. (Registration is required to use this feature)
• Add movies to your Favorites Stack to keep track of all your favorite titles, or use at as a wish list for future rentals or purchases. (Registration is required to use this feature)
Along with the features we do have, there are a few we are still missing, but are currently working on.
• The minimum screen resolution which Cinemira supports is 1280×800. Alterations to the UI is job number one for us.
• No iPad or iPhone support. If we can get our UI alterations in place that should all Cinemira to function as a web app through the iPhone OS web browser.
• No proper iPad or iPhone app in the near future. This is more of a financial issue due to the size of our team, but we are always looking for potential investment partners to work toward building a proper app.
• Support for Non-U.S. iTunes Movie Stores. Yes Cinemira is still U.S. only, but we have the foundation that will allow us to expand more countries in the future.
• Bugs, bugs, bugs. We still have a few lingering critters which we will bang out as soon as we can.
• Future UI enhancements, including more social features so that Cinemira users can interact and share information about their favorite movies.
As you can see we have a bit of work ahead of us, but I am proud of what my small but incredibly talented and dedicated Cinemira team has built up to this point, and we look forward to making Cinemira the best it can be.
