Apple Drops Price Of Apple TV

In more positive news Apple has decided to cut the price of the Apple TV. In reality Apple dropped the 40 GB version all together and dropped the price of the 160 GB version to $229. With Apple dropping the price of the Apple TV, and funky things going on with the interface, do I sense a software update coming soon?

Interesting – though with streaming from my desktop mac (with plenty of hard drive space) I don't really understand the need to store much on Apple TV. ….

Yeah. I'm a streamer too. I sync very little (just some music and photos for the screensaver really.)

Of course, movie rentals DO need to live on the AppleTV until I get around to watching them. (That reminds me… I've got one that's going to expire soon!)

So I'm guessing the real need for a larger AppleTV HD is for laptop owners whose computer isn't always on (or even there!). Macbooks make up a big portion of Apple sales from what I hear, so I guess it makes sense to them.

Ever since updating to Snow Leopard I've had “weird issues” with my AppleTV, so I'm hoping a software update might address those sorts of things in addition to adding new iTunes 9-related goodness.

Or maybe it's gonna take a brand new Snow Leopard-running AppleTV box to make things happy again. If Apple comes out with one – I'm there.

(although I secretly hope to get another year of free upgrades and improvements to my original AppleTV before having to spend $$ on new hardware.)

That's the position I'm in; I have a laptop and don't want to keep plugging in and unplugging my external drives. I'm happy with the streaming capabilities but would prefer to plug my external drive straight into the ATV
