While it's difficult to change the contract processes - I wonder if we could convince Apple to advertise the shows that are about to disappear.

Knowing it was about to drop off would encourage a lot of rentals of that content, perhaps enough to offset the users wondering WHY it was disappearing.

Yes it is a web of contracts... I wrote the definitions for a contract payment system and they said that if an artist wanted to be paid in pink teddy bears, we would pay them in pink teddy bears. Made the contracts quite interesting.

As for AppleTV, the content providers haven't really had to think about this issue before. They'd release on DVD and that was then out there in the video stores. They'd release to PPV who only ever could put on around 10 movies, and it didn't feel like they were REMOVING them after a month so much as replacing them with new ones. They'd go to premium movie channels and it was the same thing - we knew it was here for a longer but still limited time and we didn't want older movies clogging up the premium channel either.

Now our PPV is limitless and it doesn't make sense to remove content.. but the contracts are stuck there.

Well...a lot of people like to blame the studios. What few people realize is the web of contracts and IPs the studios has to manages is more complex than our financial system. Its not just what the studios want, the studios have to obey endless contracts THEY have with the actions, writers guilds, producers, IP owners, individual actor contracts, etc...

...the result is a broken business model that will not function well at all in the future. Like Detroit, they will die a slow death until EVERYONE involved agrees to streamline the process.

Ugh, it is so annoying that they remove things, I wish the studios would pull their head out of the clouds and just take my money the way I want and am willing to give it to them
