Boxee announces new alpha for Apple TV

Boxee announced today the availability of a new alpha version (0.9.11.5591) for Mac OS X and Apple TV. Most notable additions for this release are the addition of Pandora, Radio Time and a new Boxee browser. Boxee has also publicly released the API for Boxee make it possible for third party developers to start adding new plug-ins. I’m hoping Boxee can create a decent ecosystem of partners to start adding unique content portals.

This update should show up in the downloads section of the Launcher menu option. Enjoy!

Is it just me, or did we lose ABC in the previous update?…

…or maybe it was never there…

…but I swear I remember an ABC logo…

I installed this on my AppleTV to check out the Hulu offerings. It wasn’t for me, as I run my ATV thru a projector onto a 106″ screen–looked AWFUL. But, with this release and the inclusion of Pandora, I am excited again!

Stupid question: where’s the launcher menu again? Haven’t looked at it since original install some time back. Keep up the great work on this btw, I hit it several times a day.

@eddie – the launcher option should be at the top of the main menu. It is for me but it may have changed? I patched mine 6-9 months ago. For me, to start Boxee, I go to the main menu and then Launcher then Boxee. The launcher submenu has Boxee, XMBC, Downloads, Settings as options.

If this has changed, let me know. I will try the latest patchstick.

@yodamac – I’m not sure about the ABC logo. Unfortunately for us Canucks, none of the Hulu or US network stuff works because of IP address blocking. Given that, I don’t spend too much time playing around with it.

Has anyone else seen boxee UNINSTALL itself? I know I didn’t perform a factory reset on my Apple TV, perhaps it can happen when Apple TV updates itself? All I know is – one day it’s there, the next *poof*

@gordon you may have auto updated your AppleTV. There was a recent update (2.3.1) which your Apple TV would have installed automatically. Any update messes up the patch and Boxee. If you reinstall the patch and Boxee it should be fine, including your saved settings.

YodaMac, I believe there was an early attempt at getting ABC on Boxee but there were problems. I think they are still working on it.
