These are some of the stories we didn’t get chance to post about throughout the week.
[ lifehacker ] Cut your cable for good – lifehacker posted an excellent how to guide this week on getting Boxee set-up on your Apple TV with the hopes of getting you to paying a little less for Cable TV.
[Appleinsider] Upgrades to iTunes Plus can now be made á la carte – We tend to forget with all the video content available for the Apple TV that we can still purchase and download music. Now we can do it DRM Free and in higher quality with the ability to upgrade your older DRM’ed songs on a per song basis.
[iTunes Store] Choose Oscar Winners, Win $100 in iTunes Credit – On the off chance that some of you may be Movie buffs, and I have no idea where I would get that idea, the creators of the iPhone App Movie Challenge: Oscars(R) Special are offering you a chance to win $100 in iTunes credit. To be in with a chance to win $100 (or equivalent in local currency) iTunes credit all you need to do is buy the game for a paltry 99c and submit via the in-game option your predictions for the 2009 Academy Awards. The user with the highest number of correct predictions will win the contest. Yes it’s that simple, and it is that cheap to be in with a chance to win.

According to BusinessofVideo.com around the fourth quarter of last year Apple started using LimeLight for content distribution, in addition to their old stand by Akamai. What interests me is that many people started complaining about slow HD downloads around that time. There’s a very active thread dating back to Christmas day full of people, including me, complaining about the speeds.
My question is, did they start using a new CDN because of these download problems, or is Limelight the source of the trouble? And why hasn’t Apple acknowledged this yet?
I’ve been watching this for a while, and it seems to me like this is reaching a boiling point.
