This seems to be a big enough issue that I thought I would give it it’s own post, but it seems as though Apple has dropped the ball with their release of The Dark Knight as a rental. TDK was originally to be released as a rental on the 26th, but the release day seemed to be delayed by at least a day, and now there seems to be random issues with some Apple TV users not being able to rent the title at all. Something screwy is going on on Apple’s end of things. It looks like someone forgot to flip a switch before they took their Christmas vacation.
So if you are having issue trying to rent The Dark Knight, or you’ve found a way to rent it that wasn’t a direct route please share your story.
Below is the list of new HD Rentals that have been added to Apple TV.
Technically there are only two new HD rentals available today. I say technically because these movies were available as of the end of last week, but we had not officially counted them. It looks like everyone at Apple Inc. took a long holiday weekend because there weren’t any other titles added, and I use the term added loosely where TDK is concerned.

Update – It seems as though at some point over the last 8 hours The Dark Knight finally became available as an HD rental through the Apple TV.
This is one of those times where I get to use this website for selfish reason, but, is anyone else experiencing a slow down with downloading movies from your Apple TV? A quick look at the Apple TV Discussion forums at apple.com tells me I am not alone. You can check out the discussion here.
So far I’ve noticed the slow down beginning on the 25th. I’ve tried to rent and download at least 3 movies and the wait time has been about 8-10 hours! Kind of defeats the purpose and convenience of the Apple TV don’t it? I’ve reset my box twice and I know my wireless network is operating just fine. Any ATVJ readers having the same issue?
By the way, where is The Dark Knight in HD? Even Hellboy II in HD isn’t listed with the rest of the HD titles, you have to do a general search to find it in HD.
Since this very well may be my last post for the next couple of days, I just wanted to remind everyone that HellBoy II: The Golden Army and The Dark Knight will be coming to the iTunes Store as rentals on consecutive nights on the 25th and 26th. And I don’t think I am going out on to much of a limb to say these titles will be coming to us in HD. This should a nice way for everyone to spend some of that iTunes Gift Card credit we will be getting as gifts.

Apple seems to be inching closer and closer to the 1000 HD rental movie mark, and it looks like they want to get it in before the end of the year. We had 28 additions yesterday and today we have 33 new HD rentals! Keep it going Apple……or should I say the Studios!
Due to the large volume of additions today, the new titles will be added to the HD Rental page throughout the day.
