New purchase titles The Dark Knight and Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who! are now available for purchase and download through the Apple TV and iTunes Store.

The Dark Knight will be available to rent on 12-25-08 and Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who! on 1-7-09.

Why can’t we purchase the Dark Knight in HD. I want own this movie, not rent it in HD on the 26th! They are selling HD shows right now?! (24 Season Opener)

I agree with Matrix6028: Where’s the HD version? I’m sure it’ll be there within a few days, but it’s confusing as to why it isn’t there on opening night. (I’m sure the movie studios are behind it… Don’t wanna lose Blu-Ray sales, so it’s delayed by a week or two until the rental release in all likelihood.)

I agree. However, I bought it and must say that the picture quality of this movie is excellent. I watch it on a 77 inch projector screen and it’s very close to DVD quality in my opinion. You don’t get surround sound though.

One word of warning though – my copy keeps changing from full screen to widescreen and I’ve reported it to Apple. I’m downloading another copy now so hopefully that will work okay.

That would explain it but you could have been more polite. After all, how was I to know that? Apple don’t mention it on the iTunes store; they just say ‘widescreen’.

It’s not Wide to Full. The FULL screen you are seeing is from the filming in IMAX. IMAX film is actually higher than it is wide. I believe there is about 18 filmed in IMAX – you will notice most of these screens are outdoors.
