I think the Apple Remote wasn't the best design and Apple acknowledged that when they stopped shipping Apple Remotes with Macs over the last year. I imagine they had received a lot of so-so customer feedback by then. Who knows, maybe the next Apple TV will breing a new Apple Remote design.

Joe, good point. But if the movie you rented or purchased doesn't have these extra options available nothing happens if you hold pause/play. With the double click you are able to see if this option even exists first. At least this might be something worth doing until this option becomes more wide spread.

To access the menu quicker, you can skip the pushing 'up' twice and just hold down play pause while a video is playing.

As more features get implemented into the Apple TV, do you think it is time for a "deluxe" remote? How many things are we going to be able to do with two buttons and four directions? I know there is an iPhone and iTouch app, but I bet most Apple TV users don't have those.
