New Poll – Do You Want An Apple TV Social Network
I downloaded and installed the latest Alpha version of Boxee last night. I haven’t had a ton of time to work my way through it, but the one feature that intrigues me most about Boxee is the social networking aspect of the media center. The ability to share with your friends what albums you’re listening to, what movies and TV shows you’re watching, send recommendations and more. I posted my thoughts on this not too long ago, but I would love to see this social networking functionality come to the Apple TV. In reality it’s what we’re trying to do here with Apple TV Junkie, and now the podcast, bring our Apple TV community together.
I want to know what you think. Would you like to see Apple bring a social networking aspect to the Apple TV, or could you care less?
Take the poll to the right and or leave your thoughts with a comment.
For anyone interested, be the first to leave a request in the comments, and I’ll email you an invite to Boxee.

I signed up on their site yesterday but they said it might be a couple weeks before I get an invite.

I’d love an invite
As for social networking – it would be appreciated. I would like to see TV and movie suggestions as well based on previous purchases.
While we’re at it, why not integrate an IM client for some pop-up on-screen texting via iPhone keyboard with friends all watching the same thing at the same time? Or even timecode stamped comments to pop-up at the right time for friends watching the same show at a different time? You could collectively create a Mystery Science Theater type experience with jokes along the way.
In addition, how come there isn’t a “Genius” for podcasts & TV shows so that they all load one after the other, creating an instant TV station based on available media on the Apple TV.

would love an invite. i’ve had an appletv since the day it was released in the UK… i like the updates in firmware 2.0 and 2.1, but its still an underachieving box. boxee looks promising – would love to try it.

Yes!!! Or at least something with the AppleTV. Apple has made a great platform for the living room, they just need to do something with it.
I was hoping MoblieMe/.Mac would become a social community that could be integrated with all of Apple’s products.
Opera has done something very interesting with their My Opera Community (http://my.opera.com/community/), around a browser no less.
Microsoft has done something equally as cool with the social network around Zune, being able to share your song recommendations with friends and family.
The Xbox 360 this fall will allow you to stream netflix through it and also simultaneously watch a movie with someone across the country in sync. That is very cool!!!
The Apple community is already there solidified, waiting to gather around a service. Apple has the products there, but they need the service to bring it goether.
