Apple TV Junkie Is Here To Fuel Your Passion

Movies are our passion. We know we’re not the only ones with that passion. Apple TV Junkie has become a labor of love for us, and hopefully a useful resource for you all. This is why we started this site. We are constantly trying to improve the site by adding features, either you the ATVjunkies have asked for, or we think you’d like to see.

Unfortunately, that requires resources beyond our financial capacity. Many have suggested we start charging for the content we provide. But we refuse to take that approach. From time to time we have asked for your support and like true ATVjunkies, you have come thru! Now we’d like to introduce a new way for you to help support our ever growing Apple TV resource, a recurring donation system.

What does this mean? It means that you can choose to donate either $2, $5 or $10, on a monthly recurring basis. This is a recurring charge you can discontinue at any time you like.

As a thank you for supporting Apple TV Junkie, after your first $10 donation, we will give back a $10 iTunes Gift Card. Whether it’s $2 at a time, $5 at a time, or $10 off the bat, you get your $10 iTunes Gift Card.

So for the price of less then one HD movie rental a month, you can help support AppleTVJunkie.com so that we can provide you with the best possible Apple TV resource to fuel that passion we all share. Thank you for your support and let us know what you think.

HD TV First Impressions On My Apple TV

Update!Gizmodo has posted a comprehensive look at what is truly HD in the world of online digital media.

Macworld has a story covering the relationship between Apple TV, iTunes 8 and the new HD TV Shows.

Now that I’ve had a night to download a few of the free HD TV offerings from NBC, I thought I would give a couple of quick impressions, and ask you for yours. I’ve also attached a few screen shots comparing an SD TV Show with a New HD TV Show.

My first impression of viewing these new HD TV Shows on my Apple TV is that they are no HD Rental Movie. Maybe it’s the fact that all I’ve had to watch up until now have been HD full length movie content, but my opinion is this first round of HD TV shows is lacking the same quality as the HD rentals available on the Apple TV. Everything from the detail and sharpness, to the contrast and artifacting felt sub par compared to the HD movies I have rented.

Now I could be unfairly comparing HD TV Shows and HD Movie Rentals. Maybe I shouldn’t be comparing the quality of Blade Runner: Special Edition to Battlestar Galactica, but I did expect more. I’m curious to know what your experience was like. Maybe it was just me, maybe not.

FYI. We’re testing out a new lightbox plugin for the blog. Let me know if it’s giving anyone fits and if so it is I apologize in advance.

Daily SD Rental Update 9-10-08

As of 9-10-08, there are none! There were no New Releases today. It might have something to do with the new iTunes 8 which was rolled out yesterday. It’s like a desert… No signs of life for miles in the SD Rental part of town! Hopefully we can make it to civilization without resorting to cannibalism! Don’t go to sleep Eddie!

Important Note: To view the latest New Release for the week, please visit the SD Rentals page.

VUDU Testing Blu-ray Quality Rentals

[Engadget] Apparently not wanting Apple to get all the HD news yesterday, Engadget is reporting that VUDU is testing Blu-ray quality rentals. VUDU is calling these Ultra-HD titles HDX movies and part of process of watching these higher quality rentals is that you have to wait two to three hours to download them. Ouch, kinda takes the spontaneity out of renting a movie.

Head on over to Engadget to get all the details.
