Last week we got details on the upcoming release of Iron Man on DVD and Blu-ray, and hopefully Apple TV, this week we get details on the DVD and Blu-ray release of Indy 4. Love it or hate, it as it seemed a lot did, Indy 4 had a strong run at the box office this summer and it will be hitting store shelves on October 14th.

Based on the non-release of the previous Indiana Jones trilogy earlier this year on Apple TV, Indy 4 is not a sure thing. Rights to the Indy films falling under Lucasfilms, not Paramount, and it appears that Apple has no distribution agreement with Lucasfilm as of yet. With the upcoming Star Wars Clone Wars getting ready to debut on National Television, this might be a good time to work something out, as the original Clone Wars cartoon did make it to iTunes for a brief time.

FYI. Can someone please answer this question for me. Why is it that the studios are not revealing when the digital download version of movies such as Iron Man and Indy 4 will be available for rent or purchase? Why only DVD and Blu-ray? Is this purely a money/pre-order type situation?

Raise your hand if you know about the PS3 Play TV….  Long story short it’s a USB tuner to turn the PS3 into a PVR, also allowing you to copy over to a PSP (while I can’t find confirmation it may also allow streaming to the PSP). You might be asking why do I care, this is an Apple TV site. True, but it underlines why Apple needs to roll out Apple TV V2. Recent price drops have blu ray drives right near the 100.00 mark, and that’s retail for you and I. ATSC/Qam tuners are cheap and Apple can build the software for a PVR. So I think you can see where I’m headed with this, right? Apple TV + Blu Ray + PVR + streaming and importing to iPods . All for under the price of a 40gb PS3, Apple will have its iPod for the living room. I still stick by the idea of two versions of the ATV one for you main TV like above, and cheaper less functional units for around the house.
