Let me give you my 3 reasons why I chose to use AVD (Apple Video Download)

A - Apple. These files which we are purchasing or renting to watch are created to be viewed specifically on Apple products, such as an iPod or iPhone or Apple TV, with Apple DRM. Like HD-DVD was to Toshiba and Blu-Ray is to Sony, AVD is to Apple. I was never looking to coin a generic acronym for the entire "Digital Download" industry as whole.

V- Video. These files which we are purchasing or renting are video files. Whether they are Music Videos, TV Shows, or Movies. They are not generic "Digital" files.

D- Download. I think that is self explanatory.
